REGSEC SAVED KNUST FROM DESTRUCTION- KNUST Lecturer

THE CLOSURE of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, last Monday, helped prevent a possible total ruin of the university.

Prof. Charles Marfo, Head of Department of Modern Languages at the KNUST, who made the observation, said he foresaw greater disaster at the hands of the irate students.

H commended the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), for the visionary and bold decision it took in closing down the university.

Angry students of the KNUST, without giving any hint of their intentions, went on rampage last Monday morning, and destroyed several properties.

Prof. Marfo alleged that the students had planned to continue their destruction spree for three days, arguing that the decision to close the university down was appropriate.

“Some people were planning to use three days to destroy the university but their evil plans could not materialize because the university was closed down”, he alleged on Nhyira FM.

According to the lecturer, it is possible that some faceless politicians had instigated the students to cause the mayhem.

Meanwhile, government on Thursday announced that the university should be re-opened within the next 14-days so that the students could continue with their academic work.
