‘Robbers’ Shoot 8 Cops – One in Critical Condition

Eight police officers narrowly escaped death on Saturday when some suspected armed robbers opened fire on them in two separate shooting incidents in Accra.

Four of the officers were shot at Zamarmra Line in Korle Bu, a suburb of Accra Saturday evening.

They are: Gbedema Rudorf, Gbemu Thompson, Charles Dankwah, and Ebenezer Danso.

According to reports, one officer is in critical condition while a-24-year-old man and an elderly woman who are civilians have also been injured.

All victims are currently being treated at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Sources claim, the officers had arrived on scene to arrest the suspect for another offense, but he retaliated and sprayed bullets at the officers.

The reason for the initial arrest is unknown but the suspect’s name has also been withheld.

Second Shooting Incident

In the second incident, the officers were shot at Asore Danho, a suburb of Dansoman also in Accra.

The incident which occurred at about 11PM on Saturday, also saw two other civilians, a man and woman also sustaining gunshot wounds according to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.

The officers were responding to alerts of a robbery which was ongoing in a house at Dansoman but were shot at, in their attempt to locate the specific house.

All the victims were rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital by the driver of the Police vehicle who was waiting for his colleagues in the car.

One of the officers was shot in the chest and is currently in critical condition.

The other three officers and two civilians are in stable condition and are also receiving treatment.

No arrests have so far been made.

Recounting the incident to the police, one of the officers said they were trying to locate the specific house the caller described to them but unknowingly they were very close to the robbery scene.

The Deputy Commissioner of the Greater Accra Police Command, George Alex Mensah has indicated that a manhunt is underway to arrest the robbers.
