Having sex in a car parked in a public space could get you arrested and charged under Ghanaian law, according to legal practitioner Samuel Kissied.
Speaking on Okay FM on April 27, 2026, speaking in Twi, a local Ghanaian dialect, he explained that such behaviour, according to the law may be considered gross indecency because it is expected to take place in a private setting, not in areas visible to the public.
He clarified that while a car is private property, its location plays a key role in how the law treats the situation. According to him, once a vehicle is parked on a public road or even close to a residential area, it is regarded as being in a public space. This means anyone caught engaging in sexual activity under such conditions risks arrest and possible prosecution.
“Engaging in sexual activity in a car can land you in legal trouble. Although many people may not get caught, some later admit it and recount their experiences.
Under the law, such acts may fall under gross indecency because they are expected to be done in private,” he warned.
He further stressed that the visibility and accessibility of the location determine whether the act is considered a public offence. In his view, even if the car belongs to an individual, it does not guarantee privacy when it is positioned in an area accessible to others.
“Once a car is in a public space, whether on the road or even parked near someone’s residence, it is still considered a public setting, people walk around almost all the time, so someone might see you. If you are caught in such a situation, so far as it is not your room and it is your car, you could face consequences.
That is why individuals caught in such situation by the police, find themselves wanting, ” he explained.
His comments serve as a caution to the public to be mindful of their surroundings and to understand that certain actions, even in personal property like a car, can still fall under public law when carried out in open or accessible spaces.
