Speak Simple English – Market Women Tell Nana Addo

MARKET WOMEN from the various parts of the country, especially Kumasi, seem to have issues with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over how he delivers his messages.

They have complained that they usually find it extremely difficult to understand the messages of the president, which are usually delivered in what they termed as “complex English language”.

The market women have therefore appealed y to President Akufo-Addo to, henceforth; deliver his messages to the public in “simple English language”, so they (market women) could understand.

According to them, they played significant roles, which helped Nana Akufo-Addo to becoming the president of the country in 2016 so they had the right to understand the messages of the president.

“Everybody knows that Nana Akufo-Addo enjoys massive support from market women, and in fact, we played crucial roles which made it possible for Nana Akufo-Addo to be elected as president on a third attempt.

“But we now have issues with the president because we hardly understand his messages to Ghanaians, which are usually delivered in complex English language so we are appealing to him to address this important issue.

“He can continue to address the citizens in the English language but his message should be delivered in Form 4 English, which everybody including the market women can understand”, Maame Akosua, said in ‘Twi’ language.

On her part, Nana Afia Konadu, said “Nana Akufo-Addo should speak simple English such as ‘The boy is going’ so that all of us would be able to understand what he intends convey to the public”.

She said: “Akufo-Addo’s messages are usually delivered to the citizenry in an American English which we the market women, don’t understand, so Nana Akufo-Addo should tone down to their level”.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, assured that the concerns of the market women would be relayed to the president, who he said is a listening leader.
