The management of the University of Ghana says it has initiated its own investigations into circumstances that led to a near violent clash between some students of Commonwealth Hall and their counterparts from the KNUST’s University Hall also known as Katanga on Monday.
Some members of both halls clashed at the University of Ghana where they were expected to participate in an inter-halls debate competition.
A reporter with the University’s radio station, Radio Univers, Emmanuel Dzivenu told Citi Newsthat just when the debate was about to start, a video went viral that had gone viral on social media, in which a man believed to be a member of Commonwealth Hall, was being molested by another person believed to be a member of Katanga Hall.
Some members of Commonwealth Hall thus mobilized and stormed Mensah Sarbah hall where the students from Katanga were lodging and attacked them.
The clash left one person injured while 10 others were arrested by the Police to assist in investigations.
Earlier reports indicated that one person had died as a result of the clash, but the University’s statement signed by its Public Affairs Director, Stella Amoah, said no death had occurred as a result of the incident.
She said the University will also undertake its independent investigation and take decisive actions against persons found to have violated the school’s rules and regulations.
