Uganda MP Fined For Urinating In Public

A Ugandan lawmaker has been fined by a court for urinating in public. A court in the capital Kampala asked Abraham Abiriga to pay 40,000 Ugandan shillings (equivalent to $10) for creating a public nuisance by his action.

The MP who is in parliament on the ticket of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has since settled the fine.

MP Abiriga in late September was pictured urinating near the gate of the Finance Ministry. A photo of him in the act went viral on social media leading to his arrest and charge before court.

The New Vision portal reports that the prosecution proved that Abiriga’s act was against Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) maintenance law and order ordinance, 2016.

At the time of the incident, he defended the act with the reason that he xould not keep the urine in him, hence his action.

“But you people, journalists, are the ones making mess, yesterday I was battled off I wanted to urinate, I jumped out and I was urinating, even this you spread it on whatsapp, for what now?”

The MP who represents the Arua Municipality was prosecuted under a city regulation that says a person who commits public nuisance or easing in the city must be fined 40,000 shillings, be imprisoned or slapped with both punishments.
