Ursula Meets Netherland’s Vice Minister

The Minister of Communications, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has held talks with the Netherland’s Vice Minister for International Cooperation, Md. Kitty Van de Heijden to discuss vital issues confronting the two countries.

The meeting, which came off last Monday, formed part of activities marking Mrs Ursula’s official visit to Hague as the President’s Special Envoy to discuss more issues centered on digital development.


The discussions held during the meeting centered mainly on the Candidacy of Ghana’s Dr. Edward Kwakwa for the position of Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

Speaking during the meeting with the Netherland’s Vice Minister, the Communications Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West Constituency said World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) forms part of one of the 15 specialized agencies of the United Nations created in 1967 to encourage creative activity and promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world.

The visit is the first leg of a three nation tour by the Minister to garner international support for Dr. Kwakwa’s bid to head the world’s organisation for creativity.


She seized the opportunity to call for exchanges between the two countries to keep the knowledge sharing with the Netherlands to prepare Ghana’s youth for the digitized world.

The minister also called for more collaborations between the Netherland and Ghanaian government in order to further build their capacities, deliver optimally and help build a stronger institution for the benefit of their citizenry who they represented.

Dr. Kwakwa is currently the Senior Director for the Department for Traditional Knowledge and Global Challenges at WIPO, Geneva, Switzerland.

Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful led a delegation made up of Ghana’s ambassador to the Netherlands, Mrs. Sophia Horner-Sam and some officials from the Ghana Foreign Ministry.
