Water for Rural Africa Constructs Borehole for Akatsi-Xavi

Water for Rural Africa, a Non-Governmental Organisation has constructed a mechanised borehole for Akatsi- Xavi, a farming community in the Akatsi South District.

Dr Donald Agumenu, Founder of the NGO said the project, courtesy, Wise Hokli, a philanthropist, was to reduce the stress and frustrations girls and women go through walking several distances in search of water in the community.

He said the Philanthropist provided GHC60, 000. 00 for the project after some opinion leaders sent him the request when the only borehole in the community broke down.

Dr Agumenu said the NGO was helping to construct more boreholes for the community in furtherance of Goal six of the Sustainable Development Goals, pinched on the provision of clean water and sanitation.

Mr John Atabu, an opinion leader in the community told the Ghana News Agency that the borehole would help reduce health issues associated with drinking unclean water, and also save time and resources involved searching for water in communities, kilometres away.

Mr Joseph Hogli, a Businessman who also supported the project said most rural communities lacked basic amenities due to long-held beliefs that natives who undertook such projects were attacked spiritually.

He therefore underscored the need to demystify the belief to encourage people in the diaspora to contribute towards the development of deprived communities.
