Wendy Shay: “I’m the Most Bullied Artiste in Ghana”

Ghanaian Afropop singer Wendy Shay has claimed she is the most bullied artiste in the history of Ghana’s music industry.

Speaking on the Afrobeats podcast with Nigerian host Adesope Olajide on May 20, 2025, Wendy opened up about the tough times she faced after entering the music scene following the death of Ebony Reigns. According to her, the bullying affected not only her but also her family.

“I’m the most bullied artiste in the history of Ghana music,” she said.

“It got so bad that my mother told me to quit and come back to Germany. Some family members were even shy to associate with me.”

Despite the negativity, Wendy said she found strength in the struggle.

“I won’t even wish that on my worst enemy, but that built me. she stated.

“Even during those hard times, I had fans who supported me. Every time female artistes were ranked by streams, I was number one,” she stated.

Wendy Shay also shared that her music journey began in Germany, where she was rejected by several talent shows like The Voice of Germany, Pop Idol, and Superstar. Still, she never gave up.

“I was turned down by so many vocal talent shows, like Voice of Germany, Superstar, Pop Idol, and many others. Despite all this, I believed in my voice the most. I grew up listening to the Rihannas, the Beyoncés, the Celine Dions, and I actually found it weird that I had my way detoured to Africa to do music”, she said.

She added that African stars like Shatta Wale, Tiwa Savage, and Ebony later inspired her to embrace her African roots and push forward in the music industry.
