White House Dinner Shooting: Trump Safe, Suspect Arrested

A 31-year-old man has been arrested after a shooting at the Washington Hilton Hotel during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, forcing the evacuation of Donald Trump and other guests.

The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, is from Torrance, a suburb of Los Angeles in California. According to reports by CNN and CBS, Allen worked as a teacher and video game developer. Law enforcement officials say he opened fire inside the hotel on Saturday night before he was quickly overpowered and arrested by Secret Service agents.

The shooting happened on a floor above where the dinner was taking place. Wolf Blitzer, who was present at the event, said he was just a few feet away from the gunman when the incident occurred. He described the moment as terrifying, explaining that the attacker was firing randomly. Blitzer said he heard at least six loud gunshots before a police officer pushed him to the ground to protect him.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect fired several shots before being stopped. Security personnel acted swiftly, preventing further harm. President Trump later praised the response of law enforcement, saying they acted “quickly and bravely” to control the situation.

After his arrest, Allen reportedly told investigators that he intended to target officials from the Trump administration. However, officials say the exact motive is still under investigation. In an interview, Todd Blanche said early findings suggest the suspect may have been aiming at government officials, possibly including the president.

Investigators are also looking into how the suspect got his weapon. Early reports indicate that he may have assembled the gun inside the hotel. Blanche noted that the suspect “didn’t get very far” and was stopped before he could carry out a larger attack.

Authorities believe Allen travelled across the country by train, moving from Los Angeles to Chicago and then to Washington, D.C. before the incident.

No deaths have been reported, and officials say the quick response by security forces likely prevented a more serious tragedy. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement works to understand the full details behind the attack.
