I’ll Train The Next ‘Big Musician’ – Says Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale says he wants his legacy in music to go beyond hit songs and focus on mentoring young talents to become future stars.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) @ 20 Song Competition in Accra, the “Kakai” hitmaker explained that he is committed to helping shape the next generation of musicians, especially those coming from the streets.

“I am ready to nurture the next Shatta Wale. If there is another street king coming, l want to be part of that journey. I want to see someone even greater than me,” he said.

The SLTF @ 20 Song Competition is being organised in partnership with Hotwav GH. It is part of activities marking the 20th anniversary of the Student Loan Trust Fund, which supports students in Ghana’s tertiary education system. Shatta Wale earlier announced his partnership with the project in April 2026, saying education plays a key role in success.

For him, the competition is not just about music but about changing lives.

“This is not just about music. It is about building lives, building dreams and building the next big name. If you are a singer, a rapper or any talent, just bring your energy. We are going to pick a winner who will stand with me on stage,” he said.

He added that he wants to see raw and hardworking talent that can push the industry forward.

“I want to see raw talent. I want to see energy. I want someone who is ready to work hard and take this industry further. If you win, you are not just winning money – you are winning a future,” he said.

The winner of the competition will receive $20,000, a recording deal with Foxway Records, and mentorship opportunities. The winner will also perform live with Shatta Wale at the SLTF anniversary event.

“If I can help one person become better than me, then I have done my job. That is the future I want to see,” he added.

The initiative aims to discover young Ghanaian artistes while celebrating 20 years of SLTF’s support for education. It also seeks to bridge education and creativity by giving young talents a platform to grow in the music industry.
