Wisa Fined GH₵8,400

An Accra Domestic Violence and Gender Based court has sentenced hiplife artiste, Eugene Ashe to a fine of GH₵8,400 for displaying his penis while performing on a public stage.

The artiste would serve a two year jail term if he is unable to raise the money.

The court presided over by Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku had found the artiste aka Wisa guilty of the charge of gross indecent exposure although the musician had vehemently denied same.

In sentencing Wisa, the court held that Wisa did not deny being the one in the video nor deny showing anything on stage.

Mrs. Adjin-Doku said the video tendered to the court was hairy but the dildo he showed to the court as what he used for the act had no hairs on it adding that he forgot to tell the manufacturer to add hairs it.

“I am convinced that the penis he displayed was his God -given penis” the court noted.

Mrs. Adjin-Doku said Wisa is a public figure many young people look up to and as such would spare him custodial sentence.

Early on the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Judith B. Asante, had urged the court to punish the artiste to serve as a deterrent to others.

Background

Wisa, of the ‘Ekikimi’ fame, was arrested for allegedly exposing his penis while performing at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on December 24, 2015.

He has, however, denied a charge of gross indecent exposure and is on a GH¢8,000 bail with one surety.

On December 25, 2015, the Accra Regional Police was alerted over a nude video posted on the Internet from an unknown source, in which Wisa intentionally exposed his penis, while performing live on stage.

According to the Prosecution the Police contacted the managers of Artiste to produce him at the Regional Police Headquarters for investigations, which they did.

The prosecution said investigations into the matter disclosed that on December 24, Airtel Communications Company and Citi FM, an Accra-based radio station, organised an event dubbed: ‘Decemba 2 Rememba’ which included the accused as a guest artiste.

In the course of the show, the accused, while dancing with a female dancer identified as Monica Kumadeh, suddenly removed his penis out of his pair of jeans and began to caress the buttocks of the dancer.

This compelled the management of the “Ekiki Me” hit singer to apologise over what it described as the artiste’s “rash and irresponsible behaviour”.
