3 Dead, 15 Injured in Highway Crash

Three people have died and 15 others have sustained injuries after a serious road accident occurred at Juaso on the Kumasi-Accra Highway in the Ashanti Region.

The crash happened at about 9:39am on Sunday, July 13, 2026, at the Juaso Three-Lane area near Next Bon Gas, involving a Shackman F3000 truck and a Dongfeng van.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the incident on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, through a Facebook post, saying its emergency teams responded quickly after receiving a distress call about the accident.

“On 13th July, 2026, at approximately 09:39 HRS, a serious road traffic accident occurred at Juaso Three-Lane, near NEXT BON Gas along the Kumasi-Accra Highway”, statement read.

According to the GNFS, the crash involved a Shackman F3000 truck with registration number GN 9673-25, which was carrying clinker and driven by Stephen Amankwah, and a Dongfeng van with registration number GM 4002-26, driven by Ebenezer Nyame.

“The emergency call prompted a swift response from rescue crews. The collision involved a Shackman F3000 truck with registration number GN9673-25, driven by Mr. Stephen Amankwah and loaded with clinker, and a Dongfeng Van with registration GM4002-26, driven by Mr. Nyame Ebenezer,” portions of the statement read.

The Fire Service said a total of 18 people were involved in the accident. Three victims, made up of two men and one woman, were confirmed dead at the scene, while the remaining 15 people suffered different levels of injuries.

“Eighteen persons were involved in total. Three persons, two males and one female, were reported dead at the scene. Fifteen others sustained various degrees of injury,” the service stated.

Personnel from the Konongo-Odumase and Juaso Fire Stations were dispatched to the accident scene to assist with rescue operations.

The firefighters recovered the bodies of the three deceased victims and handed them over to the Juaso Police for further procedures.

The GNFS explained that the two drivers involved in the crash and 13 other injured passengers had already been rescued by members of the public before the arrival of the emergency team.

The injured victims were later transported to the Juaso Government Hospital for urgent medical attention.

“The two drivers and the remaining thirteen injured persons were rescued by the public before the crew arrived and were transported to Juaso Government Hospital for urgent treatment,” the statement added.

The accident caused significant damage to both vehicles. The Shackman F3000 truck suffered partial damage to its cowl, while the Dongfeng van recorded major damage to its windscreen and engine compartment.

The GNFS has not yet determined what caused the crash and said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the collision.

Road accidents remain a major concern in Ghana, with authorities repeatedly urging drivers and road users to exercise caution, avoid speeding and observe road safety regulations to reduce fatalities.

The latest incident adds to concerns over road safety along major highways, including the Kumasi-Accra route, which records heavy traffic from commercial vehicles, passenger buses and private cars travelling between the two major cities.

Meanwhile, authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation as investigations into the Juaso crash continue.
