A pall of sorrow has engulfed the Eastern Region following a fatal road accident that claimed the life of Kofi Nti, personal aide to the Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah.
The crash happened over the weekend on the Oda-Nkwanta Road when a Nissan Navara 4×4 pickup, registration number GT 2639-24, carrying the deceased and three others, collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle in circumstances that are still unclear.
The three other occupants sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital by emergency responders. Medical officials say the victims remain in critical condition and are battling for their lives.
Sources within the constituency disclosed that Kofi Nti and his team were touring various polling stations to monitor the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing polling station executive elections when the tragedy struck at Oda Nkwanta.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Akyem Oda municipality, forcing political activities in the area to slow down as party faithful mourn the sudden loss of a man widely described as hardworking, loyal, and deeply connected to the grassroots.
Known for his dedication to party work and close relationship with the MP, Kofi Nti played a key role in bridging the gap between the MP’s office and constituents.
He leaves behind a wife and children.
Meanwhile, the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into the cause of the fatal collision.
The latest tragedy adds to the growing wave of deadly road accidents involving prominent personalities in the Eastern Region in recent times.
Among those recently lost on that stretch of road was former Eastern Regional Coordinator of the Free SHS Secretariat, Anim Kenneth, a respected political figure widely known as a key strategist and loyal coordinator for the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency.
The increasing spate of fatal crashes has sparked fresh concerns among residents and political actors over road safety across the region.
