Agric Ministry Denies Using State Funds On Okyeame Kwame’s Ambassadorial Role

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has explained the circumstances surrounding the appointment of celebrated Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame as an ambassador for the government’s ‘Feed Ghana Initiative’, stressing that the role is purely voluntary and comes at no cost to the state.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Media Liaison Office, explained that the award-winning artiste independently offered his support to the programme, driven by what officials describe as patriotism and a commitment to national development.

The artiste personally offered to support and champion the government’s Feed Ghana project by using his platform to amplify its success stories and encourage public participation. His role is rooted in patriotism and a shared commitment to national development.

It is important to state that the Ministry, under the leadership of the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, has not committed any state funds, remuneration, or financial package to this engagement” part of the statement reads.

His involvement, the Ministry noted, will focus on leveraging his public influence to highlight success stories within the Feed Ghana project and encourage wider citizen participation.

The clarification comes amid public speculation over whether the appointment carried any financial obligations for the government. The Ministry was unequivocal in its response, stating that no remuneration, incentives, or financial package has been discussed or approved for the engagement.

According to the statement, the sector Minister, Eric Opoku, has not authorised any form of state expenditure in relation to the appointment.

The Ministry emphasised that the collaboration represents a model of voluntary public-private support that aligns with the broader objectives of the Feed Ghana programme.

Officials further indicated that such partnerships are welcome, particularly at a time when the country is intensifying efforts to boost agricultural productivity, ensure food security, and promote sustainable farming practices.

“The Ministry welcomes voluntary partnerships from well-meaning Ghanaians and stakeholders who are willing to contribute to advancing the objectives of the Feed Ghana programme,” the statement said.

The statement was signed by Samuel Huntor, Media Liaison Officer at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

Okyeame Kwame’s involvement is expected to bring increased visibility to the initiative, particularly among the youth and urban populations, as government continues to seek innovative ways to rally national support behind its flagship agricultural campaign.
