Austrian Bundesliga defender Beres Owusu says playing for Ghana would be a dream come true because of his strong connection to the country and its culture.
Beres Owusu, who plays for Grazer AK, was born in France to Ghanaian parents. Despite growing up abroad, Owusu says his parents made sure he stayed connected to his Ghanaian roots and values.
Speaking to JoySports journalist Joseph Ayinga-Walter, the 22-year-old explained that representing the Black Stars means much more to him than just football.
“For me, it will mean a lot, it’s not just about the football, it will be about the pride and the culture,” he said.
Owusu added that his family raised him with Ghanaian values, which has shaped his identity over the years.
“I grew up with Ghanaian education because of my parents, so wearing the Black Stars jersey represents the whole nation so for me it will be a dream come true.”
The centre-back also made it clear that he has always wanted to represent Ghana at international level, despite being born in France.
“Even though I was born in France, it’s been something I knew since childhood that if I’m to play for the national team, it will be Ghana,” he added.
Owusu has been impressive for Grazer AK this season and continues to develop into one of the club’s reliable defenders. His comments about Ghana could put him in contention for a future call-up to the Black Stars as the national team continues to strengthen its squad.
