Chef Abby to Host Second Edition of ‘The Big Street Feast’

Ghanaian culinary humanitarian Chef Abby is set to host the second edition of The Big Street Feast, a large-scale food initiative aimed at providing free meals to more than 50,000 people living on the streets of Accra and Kumasi.

The event is scheduled for October 16, 2026, to coincide with World Food Day, and will bring together volunteers, organisations, sponsors and members of the public to support people who may struggle to afford regular meals.

Announcing the initiative, Chef Abby called on individuals, organisations and other stakeholders to contribute towards making the second edition a success, stressing that the scale of this year’s programme requires collective support.

“The Big Street Feast 2.0 is here. On World Food Day, October 16th, we are feeding OVER 50,000 people on the streets of ACCRA & KUMASI.”

“But I can’t do this alone. We need all the support we can get.”

The second edition follows the success of the inaugural The Big Street Feast, which saw more than 20,000 people served with free meals across Accra under the mantra “Wherever you are, free food will find you.”

During the maiden edition, food was distributed at four major locations — Efua Sutherland Park, Fadama Astroturf, Madina Astroturf and Kwabenya Market. Seven Yango trucks also delivered meals to ten communities, including Dome, Pokuase, Ablekuma, Dansoman, West Hills, Jamestown, Bukom, Spintex, Teshie and Ashaley Botwe.

A mobile food truck further travelled across the city to reach people who were unable to access the main distribution centres.

Reflecting on the impact of the initiative, Chef Abby said the project was designed not only to provide food but also to make beneficiaries feel valued and cared for.

“Our goal was simple — to make everyone feel happy and loved. So in every plate we served, we added a smile. We made sure no one was left out, and that every person felt seen, cared for, and appreciated. That was the true foundation of The Big Street Feast,” said Chef Abby.

The first edition received support from several partners, including Kivo, Yango, Everpack, Rafimex Company Ltd, Fairway Care, Lucozade, Perla, the Diaspora Affairs Office, Pureheaven, Samyang, Ahmad Tea and other organisations.
