Skip breakfast if you want to lose weight

Chief Executive Officer at the Solis Hospital, Dr Ebo Daniels, has advised people on a weight-loss journey to consider skipping breakfast as part of their efforts to achieve positive results.

Dr Daniels said the conventional advice encouraging people to prioritise breakfast may not necessarily be suitable for individuals seeking to reduce their weight.

He said people who are trying to lose weight should instead consider eating within a restricted window, including the option of one meal a day which he believes can be effective when properly implemented.

Dr Daniels made the comments while speaking on The Healthy Living Project on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, September 1.

He also discussed the role of different food groups in weight management, particularly carbohydrates, and warned that consuming carbohydrate-dense meals can result in excessive calorie intake over time.

“Vegetables are better for you because the caloric content is low. The only issue about carbohydrates is that if your food is very dense with carbohydrates, then you are going to get excess calories during the course of the day and this accumulates overtime and when it accumulates, that is where you have the hypertension, cholesterol, fatty liver and all those things.

“Eating one meal a day is a very good thing. Some people have their doubts about it but it works. In the past, the books used to tell us ‘eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and supper like a pauper’ but we need to discard that. If you are someone who wants to lose weight, then breakfast is something you should skip.”
