Renowned gospel musician Sonnie Badu has called on prophets to stop predicting people’s deaths, warning that such actions make them prophets of doom rather than messengers of hope.
In a Facebook post on April,3rd 2025, the “Baba” hitmaker emphasized that prophecy should inspire and uplift, not create fear by predicting tragic events.
He stated that a true prophet’s role is to offer encouragement and redemption, not to spread despair. Badu urged prophets to exercise wisdom when delivering their messages, highlighting that revealing someone’s death doesn’t make one powerful.
“Dear major and minor prophets, there is something called the word of wisdom, which simply means that whatever you see, you should speak with wisdom. Prophesying someone’s death does not make you powerful. But rather it makes you a prophet of doom. There is always redemption when a revelation is given,” he wrote.
Badu’s comments came after several prophets predicted the death of Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, following news of her recent illness. A statement from the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Saturday, March 29, 2025, confirmed that the Vice President had been flown abroad for further medical treatment after being admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on March 28, 2025.
Since her hospitalization, multiple videos have surfaced online, showing prophets making grim declarations about her fate. Badu has strongly condemned this behavior.
In his post, he shared his personal experience, saying, “I’ve seen prophets lose family members, and when you see how devastated and broken they were, you would understand that losing a family member is no joke.”
He reminded his fellow prophets about the importance of speaking with wisdom, stating, “There is something called the word of wisdom, which means you should speak with wisdom about whatever you see.”
He continued, “Prophesying someone’s death doesn’t make you powerful; it makes you a prophet of doom. Once there is revelation, there is redemption. Revelation without redemption is not from God.”
Badu also urged prophets to consider the families of the people they mention in their prophecies, saying such predictions only bring fear. He encouraged them to grow and mature in their faith, emphasizing that as they progress, they should learn to speak with more wisdom.
Badu sent his well wishes to Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, encouraging her to focus on her health and take time to rest.
“Mummy, get well soon. You gave your all during the campaign and have not rested. I’m praying for you. Love you loads, Mummy,” he wrote.
