ECG Warns Power Thieves

Persons engaged in illegal connection of electricity to their homes and work places have been warned to stop in their own interest or be made to face the law.

Available statistics at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) indicates that the stealing of power was on the ascendancy.

This fraudulent behaviour by has been identified as a hindrance to the ECGs resolve to deliver efficiently and also a major cause of revenue loss.

Kwame Agyeman-Budu, the ECG Managing Director (MD) stated that the law would deal with any power thief that would be nabbed.

In this regard, he has admonished people that steal power to refrain from that criminal behaviour to avert having issues with the law.

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi, Mr. Agyeman-Budu said the ECG loses a lot of revenue annually through power theft.

Also, he said, the stealing of power often leads to overloading of transformers, which usually burns unexpectedly.

Agyeman-Budu bemoaned that his outfit has been suffering huge losses through power theft so he warned perpetrators to stop.

Speaking on a wide range of power issues, he said the ECG has made several significant investments to enhance power delivery.

According to him, very soon all the challenges being faced by the ECG would be a thing of the past, urging the public to support the ECG.
