Election 2020 Brouhaha: ‘Gyataba’ Roars At EC Boss

Dr. Nana Agyenim Boateng, the 2020 presidential hopeful of the United Front Party (UFP) has given the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission (EC) a 48-hour ultimatum to declare the “correct” results of the December 7 polls.

According to him, the results as declared by the EC chairperson does not reflect the will of the Ghanaian people.

“We are giving Madam Jean Mensah, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission 48 hours ultimatum, that is two working days from today to come out and declare the true results of the 2020 polls else if anything happens in this country, she would have herself to blame” Mr. Agyenim Boateng known in politics as ‘Gyataba’ warned.

Jean Mensah on December 9, 2020 declared incumbent, President Nana Akuffo Addo as winner of the December 7 keenly contested polls with 6,730,413 votes, representing 51.59% while his close contender John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress got 6,214,889 votes representing 47.36%.

But Mr. Mahama has described the election as ‘flawed” threatening to challenge the results of the polls using democratic means.

The NDC has since launched nationwide protests, demonstrations picketing at the various EC offices to push for what they claim is the correct verdict of the people.

However, at a news conference yesterday, Mr. Agyenim Boateng said it is obvious and clear that the election was rigged in favor of the New Patriotic Party Candidate, Nana Akuffo Addo, insisting that “it’s sad that the EC will take for granted our peace and security in this country and erode all the gains we have made in our democracy in this shameful manner.”

He added that: “It’s sad to note that for the first time in our history the EC has come out to admit there were errors in the declaration of the presidential elections results they hurriedly declared. The flip flopping of the EC and the change of figures on the Electoral Commissions website is a clear indication of the flawed nature of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections”.

The UFP’s 2020 presidential candidate noted that the party wants the EC to engage the political parties involved to resolve all issues regarding the presidential results, so that the EC can be able to declare fair and transparent presidential results acceptable by all the parties involved.

“What we witnessed in this election are clear signs of an ailing democracy and the EC must take immediate steps to redeem its image by declaring the true results Ghanaians voted for. This is certainly not the way to go, let’s all work in the interest of the state to help preserve the peace and stability we enjoy as Ghanaians” he said.

Mr. Agyenim Boateng stated that Ghana has been touted as the beacon of Democracy and hope in Africa, stressing that the EC must come out and do the needful to boost the confidence of people in the electoral process.

“Granted that we even go by the figures declared by the EC, which we believe were padded for President Akuffo Addo and that of President Mahama deliberately reduced, a simple calculation, if we add the total votes in Techiman South, i.e. 128,018 its clear President Akuffo Addo did not cross the 50% +1 (fifty plus one) vote as required by the constitution of the Republic of Ghana, to be declared president elect by the electoral commission. On what basis then did the EC arrive at the 51.295 percent for President Akuffo Addo and his declaration as president elect?” Gyataba wondered.

Mr. Agyenim Boateng alleged that the evidence is clear that the EC compromised the process and “strongly believe the entire process of the 2020 presidential results declaration was staged and the verdict stolen for President Akufo Addo. If this is the kind of democracy, we want to be practicing then we are sorry, it might not end well.”

He urged the media to interrogate the matter and put pressure on the EC to come back and do the right thing by declaring the result that reflects the 2020 presidential polls.

‘Gyataba’ explains that elections disputes have brought chaos and civil uprising in many parts of the continent, “the reason we all need to work to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process so all parties can accept the outcome” he said.

The UFP Founder further added: “Now it is clear that, Nana Akufo Addo, the former president of the Republic of Ghana is now the president select by Jean Mensah and some corrupt media put John Dramani Mahama, as the president elect by the majority of Ghanaians.”
