George Boateng Eyes Blackburn Head Coach Role

Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder George Boateng has expressed his interest in becoming the club’s next head coach following the departure of John Eustace.

Eustace, who guided Blackburn to safety in the 2023/24 season, left the Championship side on February 13, 2025. His exit has left the club searching for a new leader, with Blackburn currently sitting nine points away from a Premier League playoff spot.

Boateng is among several names linked to the vacant role, alongside former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil, Braga’s Carlos Carvalhal, and ex-Young Boys coach Raphael Wicky. His previous ties with Blackburn strengthen his case, having served as an assistant youth coach for the club’s U-13 team in 2018. This experience fuels his belief that he is capable of taking charge.

Speaking on Soccer Africa, the 49-year-old confirmed his desire for the position.
“I have seen my name mentioned for various Championship jobs, and all I can say is that I have shown interest in the Blackburn Rovers job. I want to be the head coach.”

Boateng’s last coaching role ended in disappointment after a brief four-month stint as Coventry City’s first-team coach. He, along with manager Mark Robins, was dismissed by the club.

Despite that setback, Boateng remains eager to return to management, with Blackburn Rovers firmly in his sights.
