GFA to Mahama: We Don’t Manage Black Stars’ Budget

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has responded to President John Mahama’s call for financial transparency in the management of the Black Stars, emphasizing that it does not control the team’s budget.

During his first State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Mahama urged greater transparency in sports administration, particularly regarding national team finances, and called for the Black Stars’ budget to be made public, as it involves taxpayer funds.

In an official statement, the GFA clarified that all financial matters concerning the national teams fall under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“We fully support His Excellency’s call for transparency in the budgeting and expenditure of the Black Stars and all national teams.

As part of our commitment to accountability, the GFA submits an initial draft budget to the Ministry, but all final budget decisions and payments related to the Black Stars are exclusively handled by the Ministry,” the statement read.

The FA reiterated its commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure financial accountability.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Black Stars are preparing to face Chad and Madagascar in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
