GHAMRO To Distribute June-July Royalties

Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), a Collective Management organization approved under the Copyright Act 690 and LI 1962 has urged Ghanaian musicians to remain calm as royalty payment for June and July will be reflecting in their accounts soon.

According to a press release issued by Prince Tsegah, the Public Relations Officer of GHAMRO, the reason for the delay all these long time is due to the fact that “GHAMRO experienced some problems in receiving the blank Levy cheque from the state.”

‘’GHAMRO has regularized the issue and very soon members will be credited with their first royalties for the year 2018, GHAMRO wishes to assure its members that these difficulties have been ironed out after meetings and discussions with the respective offices in charge of the release of fund’’ – he indicated in the statement.

Mr Tsegah further apologized for any inconvenience caused and encouraged members to be patient as “plans are far advanced for prompt distribution”.

He revealed that the collective society will soon adopt other strategies to retrieve its moneys from other music users who have also refused to pay royalties to GHAMRO.

He announced that, GHAMRO will soon hold series of workshops for music users and the stakeholders in the music industry to educate them on its activities and also to establish a working relationship with them.

The workshop will also educate the music users on copyright laws protecting the music right owners and other related laws.

‘’GHAMRO wishes to assure its members that these `difficulties have been ironed out after meetings and discussions with the respective offices in charge of the release of funds. GHAMRO will soon send bulk text messages confirming payment date and processes to its members,” the promised.’’ – Prince Tsegah further added.

According to him,all copyright royalties should be paid directly to GHAMRO, since the organisation is not dealing with any association for the collection of royalties.
