Ghana Believes in You – Mahama tells Black stars

Former President John Dramani Mahama visited the Black Stars’ training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, March 19th, 2025, to boost the team’s morale ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

Acknowledging the team’s recent struggles, Mahama reassured the players that Ghanaians still believe in them. He admitted that Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) was disappointing but expressed confidence that the Black Stars could return to their former glory.

“We didn’t qualify for the AFCON. But even when we qualified last time, we exited very early. That was painful, but we haven’t given up on you,” Mahama told the players.

“We still believe that the Black Stars can regain their glory. But it depends on you, the technical team, and the management committee,” he added.

He emphasized that the team’s revival depends on the efforts of the players, technical team, and management committee. He urged them to work together to restore Ghana’s reputation in football.

Mahama also reminded the players that their success depends on their own commitment and hard work on the field.

“The goals will come from your feet. It takes sacrifice and strength. We admire you when you play for your clubs, and we expect the same dedication when you wear the national colors,” he urged.

Mahama also stressed the importance of discipline, hard work, and unity, reminding the team that success in football depends on these values.

President Mahama also urged the Black Stars to put the AFCON disappointment behind them and focus on securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup.

“We must forget about AFCON and look forward. I believe that in these qualifiers, you will redeem yourselves. If we play well, we will qualify,” he stated.

He acknowledged that winning back the trust of Ghanaians would require impressive performances.

“Ghanaians will support you fully again. You are all talented players, and we will continue to stand behind you, not just for the World Cup but for the future. We must build a strong team,” Mahama emphasized.

He also assured the players of his personal support, promising to attend the match despite his nervousness while watching football.

“I will take time off to watch the game myself. Even though my heart is not good at watching football, I will be there. I hope you justify my presence. The whole country is behind you,” he assured.

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew assured President Mahama that the team will do their best in the upcoming match against Chad.

“It’s a big motivation that you are here to support us. We know we are in a tough situation, but we are not afraid. On Friday, we will turn things around, so you can relax. We will do the job for the nation,” Ayew promised.

The Black Stars will play Chad on March 21 before traveling to Morocco to face Madagascar on March 24 as they fight to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

With their World Cup qualification hopes at stake, the Black Stars are preparing for the must-win matches against Chad and Madagascar, determine to make Ghana proud once again.
