Ghanaian musician Kelvyn Brown, better known as Kelvyn Boy has shared his thoughts on why some Ghanaian artists now incorporate Nigerian influences in their music.
Speaking to Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, he explained that it is difficult for Ghanaian musicians to gain international recognition when they stick to a purely local sound.
“We struggle when we sound fully Ghanaian. It doesn’t go far. Even if it does, we end up wondering why others are making it internationally while we remain here,” he said.
Kelvyn Boy pointed out that Nigerian artists also blend Ghanaian languages and styles into their music, which contributes to their success.
“They don’t just stick to their own sound; they sometimes use our style too. That fusion makes their music unique,” he noted.
He emphasized the need for balance, explaining that many Ghanaians enjoy Nigerian music, partly because of its diverse influences.
“In the end, it’s the same Ghanaians listening to Nigerian songs. The key is balance, and it’s taking time for us to get it right,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kelvyn Boy has released a new song, Break It. His perspective on fusion in music is likely to spark further conversations in the industry.
