I Want Dignity At MUSIGA – Ras Caleb

Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, a presidential aspirant for the national executive elections of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has explained his reason for seeking a court injunction to stop the elections.

According to him, the essence of putting the election on hold is to bring ‘sanity’ into the overall running of the union.

In the writ of summons sighted by The New Publisher, Ras Appiah-Levi is seeking a declaration that the current Voters Register, compiled by the Election Committee, is not credible and same cannot, in its flawed state, be used for the conduct of the forthcoming 2019 National Executive Committee Elections to guarantee a fair and transparent outcome.

He also wants the Election Committee to “compile afresh, authentic and credible Voters Register.”

Speaking in an interview with Halifax Ansah-Addo on Okay FM’s ‘Best Entertainment Show’, he stated that he is not happy with how election issues are being handled by the Committee.

”Halifax, I have placed an injunction on the election. The process of the election has been with many anomalies. I wrote a petition to the committee in charge of the election, including the disciplinary committee. They overlooked issues, hence the reason for the injunction.” he said.

Postponement Of Elections

Meanwhile, the national MUSIGA elections, which were postponed to July 10, 2019, have been rescheduled again.

In a statement released by the union, the main reason for the second postponement is to “enable the Electoral Commission to complete its operational and administrative work on the just ended Limited Voter Registration exercise.”

The elections, which were originally scheduled for June 26, 2019, were postponed to July 10 at a meeting by the five-member committee appointed by the union’s National Executive Committee.

According to the chairman of the committee, Smart Nkansah, the decision was based on the feedback the committee had received from the initial release of the voters register.

He indicated that the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), which is billed to supervise the elections, is currently engaged in the limited registration of voters for the national elections for 2020.

This will be the first time the various regions are voting at their respective centres.
