Male Teacher Arrested for Assaulting SHS Female Student

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School following a disturbing viral video showing the alleged assault of a female student on campus.

The suspect, identified as Eric Buernortey Apaflo, aged 39, was arrested by a police patrol team from the Nyinahin District on the evening of June 8, 2026, after authorities received reports about the incident which had already begun circulating widely on social media.

In a public statement issued by Augustine Antwi, Assistant Superintendent of Police, the suspect who also serves as a caretaker at the school hostel, reportedly confronted an 18-year-old female student, identified as Patience Chibu, together with some male students over allegations of misconduct within the hostel premises.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, who serves as a caretaker of the school’s hostel, confronted the student and some male students over alleged misconduct at the hostel. During the confrontation, a misunderstanding ensued, resulting in the suspect assaulting the student. The incident angered some students, who allegedly pelted stones at the suspect and invited some youth from the town to the school hostel in an attempt to attack him” part of the statement reads.

Meanwhile, the Police has issued a Medical Report Form to the victim to undergo medical examination and receive treatment.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command says investigations are ongoing and has urged the public to remain calm and use lawful means to address grievances and disputes.

The statement concluded, “A Police Medical Report Form has been issued to the victim for medical examination and treatment, while the suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations. The Ashanti Regional Police Command urges the public to remain calm and use lawful and peaceful means in resolving grievances and disputes.”

POLICE ARREST TEACHER SEEN IN VIRAL VIDEO ASSAULTING FEMALE STUDENT

1. The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, identified as Eric Buernortey Apaflo, 39, in connection with the assault of a female student captured in a viral video.
2. The suspect was arrested by a Nyinahini District Police Patrol Team on 8th June 2026 at about 7:00 p.m. following reports of an assault on an 18-year-old female student, Patience Chibu.
3. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, who serves as a caretaker of the school’s hostel, confronted the student and some male students over alleged misconduct at the hostel. During the confrontation, a misunderstanding ensued, resulting in the suspect assaulting the student.
4. The incident angered some students, who allegedly pelted stones at the suspect and invited some youth from the town to the school hostel in an attempt to attack him.
5. The situation was, however, brought under control through the timely intervention of the police patrol team.
6. A Police Medical Report Form has been issued to the victim for medical examination and treatment, while the suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
