NDC FIGHTS NPP OVER FREE SHS

THE OPPOSITION National Democratic Congress (NDC) is surprisingly claiming political glory for the introduction of the free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

According to the NDC, the party left behind a lot of cash whilst it was exiting political office for the finance of the policy.

The party therefore claims it would be wrong for anybody to single out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the sole initiator of the policy.

The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NDC, Abass Nurudeen, who made that argument, asked Ghanaians to thank the NDC for the success story of the free SHS.

“Former President Mahama left behind a strong economy and that is why the NPP were able to get cash to finance the free SHS policy in their first year.

“We all know that the free SHS programme is capital intensive so but for the good economy that the NDC left behind, the policy wouldn’t have been possible”.

Abass Nurudeen, who was speaking on UTV, said President Nana Akufo Addo should count himself very lucky to have taken over from Mr. Mahama, whom he described as a visionary leader.

He debunked reports that Mahama left behind a huge debt, saying NDC rather left behind a sound and resilient economy.

Meanwhile, residents of Kumasi have descended heavily on Nurudeen for his comments regarding the introduction of free SHS.

Some residents, who spoke to the paper, said they were aware the NDC kicked against the policy when Nana Addo first spoke about it in his 2008 campaign, and asked the NDC to stop throwing dust in the eyes of Ghanaians.
