ONMA Steps Up COVID Fight!

The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) is set to take the enforcement of the COVID 19 protocols a notch higher by ensuring its strict adherence in the Municipality.

According to Boye Laryea, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the disease is real, the reason the Municipality has resolved to embark on a vigorous and more aggressive public education and sanitization on the protocols.

This he said, would further create the needed awareness of the global pandemic in the general public.

Delivering his Sessional Address at the General Assembly Meeting in Accra, Mr. Laryea stated that the disease had a negative effect on the finances of the Assembly.

“Like any other part of the country, socio-economic activities in the Municipality were nearly affected” he noted.

This notwithstanding, the ONMA MCE said the management of the assembly have decided to collect current revenue arrears from telecommunication masts operators, fuel filling stations, restaurants, chop bars and catering services because their services were not directly affected by the partial lockdown and the imposition of restriction by the president in March this year.

Touching on the giant strides made by the Assembly including Planting For Food And Jobs; security and Revenue mobilization, Mr. Laryea said the Assembly exceeded its revenue target in 2019.

“In 2018, the Assembly collected about 90 percent of the estimated budget. In 2019, 94 percent of the estimated budget was achieved, what is even more encouraging about the 2019 performance was that there was 264 percent increase over the previous year’s collection and I must be proud to inform the House that we were adjudged the second best in revenue collection in the region” he noted.

Mr. Laryea however, tasked the members of the Assembly to contribute their quota in order to achieve the vision set for the Municipality

Commenting on the address, the Presiding Member Nii Odai Abdullah said the MCE has touched on every sector of the life of the Assembly.

Umar A. M. Yaro, Assemblyman for Abeka in Accra said the Address is on point adding there is the need to fix all faulty street lights in the Municipality especially as the December Polls approaches.
