PHOTOS: Akufo-Addo graces Chale Wote Festival

The 8th annual “Chale Wote” street festival of art took place here at James Town in Accra from August 20 – 26 in a colourful and memorable event.

It is the collective effort of many young people- ranging from artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers to designers, students and activists. It drew an average of over two thousand art lovers to the streets of James Town each year and this years festival was nothing different but very lovely.

The purpose of the festival is to promote the exhibition of alternative art in Ghana and to nurture an appreciation for different kinds of art among Ghanaians.

‘Chale Wote’ is a Ga word, meaning, “My Friend Let’s go!” which has been reference to slippers worn on the feet. Each of us comes from different walks of life but we all have something valuable to contribute.

This festival is complete “Do-It-Yourself” with the talented energies of many people needed to make it happen.

This years event was attended by millions of patrons from all walks of life, for the first time saw President of the republic having been present to grace the event.

In the spirit of camaraderie, creativity and fun, Chale Wote is an accessible term used by Ghanaians regardless of language.
