Police beefs up security ahead of elections

POLICE PERSONNEL in all the 16 regions of the country will be provided with the necessary modern security enhancement equipment to help them to deliver before, during and after the December 7 polls.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh, who gave the firm assurance, stated that the police would be well equipped for them to deliver on their mandate to ensure orderliness.

“I am assuring you that the police would be battle ready both physically and mentally as all the equipment that are needed for the police to maintain law and order during the elections would be provided”.

The IGP, who was accompanied by other top police chieftains from the Police Headquarters in Accra, was addressing journalists when he recently paid a working visit to the Ashanti Region.

James Oppong-Boanuh, during the visit, personally inspected the state of equipment of police personnel in the Ashanti Region. He also enquired from his men about the challenges facing them.

According to the IGP, he is aware that the police could deliver to perfection before, during and after the December 7 elections, especially when the necessary accoutrements were provided to the police.

The IGP stated that his administration would very soon provide all the necessary equipment that would put the police in a better position to deliver to the satisfaction of all.

He said the police would not allow anybody or group to disrupt the elections with acts of violence, stressing that any troublemaker would regret taking such unlawful actions as the police would cripple them.

“We shall deal ruthlessly with any troublemaker that wants to disrupt the peace that we are enjoying in the country presently”, he said with a grim face, adding that the police were battle ready for action.

James Oppong-Boanuh also admonished the youth not to allow themselves to be used wrongly by politicians to cause troubles, pointing out that any troublemaker would be ruthlessly dealt with.
