Police Grabs Two Delta Force Members

Two members of the Delta Force, a vigilante group associated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been arrested by the police in the Ashanti Region.

The two members, Richard Yaw Brefo, 51 and Paul Atta Onyinah, 49; were arrested at Tafo-Pankrono and charged with conspiracy to commit crime and rioting.

They are believed to be part of the group that attacked Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo-Pankrono, on October 7, at a time he was having a meeting with his constituents.

The angry heavily built men, according to reports, destroyed chairs arranged for the meeting, leaving the MP with no choice than to run for his dear life.

They indicated that the MP made several promises to them ahead of the 2016 elections but has so far failed to fulfill them.

NPP Condemns Attack

Meanwhile, the NPP has condemned the attack on the MP at Tafo-Pankrono.

Describing the action as “unacceptable” and “unjustifiable”, the party has called on security agencies to deal decisively with the case without fear or favor.

A statement signed and issued yesterday by the National Organizer of the NPP, Sammy Awuku read “The use of force and violence particularly in internal party matters, is alien to the tenets of the New Patriotic Party and should have no place among us, especially under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who has been a strong advocate of the rule of law.”

According to the party, it will no more tolerate such behavior from the vigilante group.

While noting that it is putting in place measures to avert any such attack in the future, it urged persons or groups affiliated to the party who may be aggrieved to avoid using violence seek justice.

“We warn any group of persons who might be harboring any of such intentions to advise themselves, since the party will not tolerate such behavior and will cooperate with the Police as we have always done.

We would again entreat our party members and supporters to at all time resort to laid down internal.
