SAPIOSEXUAL Kafui Danku Sparks New Hope

The appointment of accomplished actress, multi-award winning filmmaker and entrepreneur Kafui Danku-Pitcher as Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA) has sparked optimism among stakeholders and players from Ghana’s film industry that there is the hope of a revival of the sector.

The support from different domain players within the sector for Kafui to succeed at the NFA and help raise the movie sector to the expected level has been overwhelming.

Kafui describes herself as a sapiosexual and a sporadic vlogger .

Since Kafui took office at the NFA, she has had fruitful consultative engagements with various groups of persons within the film sector who say the now feel recognized and appreciated.

Hitherto, such fraternal engagements to have deliberations on the way forward were rare if not non-existent.

She has held successful stakeholder engagements with members of the old Board of the NFA,  and representatives from major industry associations, including the Ghana Actors’ Guild (GAG), Film Producers’ Association of Ghana (FiPAG), Ghana Academy of Film and Television Arts (GAFTA), Women in Film and Television, Audio Visual Rights Society of Ghana (ARSOG), Film Crew Association of Ghana (FiCAG), Film Distributors and Marketers, Animators Association of Ghana (AAG), Film Directors Guild of Ghana (FDGG), Northern Region Filmmakers Association, and Silverbird Cinemas (Exhibitors), were in attendance.

According to Kafui Danku: “their participation underscored the significance of the dialogue and the industry’s collective interest in shaping its future.

These engagements mark a significant step toward a more sustainable, structured, and globally competitive Ghanaian film industry, reinforcing the NFA’s vision of making Ghana a premier destination for film production and distribution on the international stage”, she added.

Kafui has also had a visit from President of the New Media Association of Ghana Eugene O. Nkansah (NMAG) to congratulate her in person and also briefly introduced the New Media Association of Ghana.

The first African Artios award winner Mawuko Kuadzi and his team has also paid a courtesy call on Kafui and the NFA to present the coveted award.

Just like the NMAG group, the discussions centered on future collaborations and other topics of importance.

Kafui Danku, soon after her appointment to the NFA as the Executive Secretary, publicly expressed her appreciation to the appointing authority and made her commitment to success known.

Experience

Her vast experience in the film industry, advocacy and leadership roles positions her as the ideal candidate to spearhead the growth and transformation of Ghana’s film industry.

With over a decade of experience in the film industry, Kafui Danku-Pitcher has established herself as a force to be reckoned with.

Since making her acting debut in 2008, she has starred in several hit films, including Any Other Monday, Alvina: Thunder and Lightning, I Do, and 4Play.

As an executive producer at ABC Pictures Limited since 2013, she has played a pivotal role in shaping Ghanaian cinema by producing films that are both commercially successful and socially impactful.

Beyond the film industry, Kafui’s influence extends to advocacy and humanitarian work. She is the founder of the Silence Is Not Golden campaign, an initiative that encourages women to speak out against abuse. Her activism against child marriage and her commitment to supporting underprivileged children further demonstrate her passion for using her platform to drive positive change.

Recognized for her advocacy, she was honored by the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) for her role in advancing women in politics, peace, security, and economic development.

Kafui Danku-Pitcher’s appointment comes at a crucial time when the Ghanaian film industry is poised for growth. With a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English and Classics from the University of Cape Coast and an ongoing Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) at the University of Ghana, she possesses the academic and professional expertise to lead the NFA effectively.

Her skills in leadership, governance, digital literacy, and strategic innovation will play a key role in positioning Ghanaian cinema on the global stage.

Kafui’s experience with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as a Repatriation Assistant demonstrates her ability to implement policies, conduct research, and build collaborative partnerships—skills that will be instrumental in her new role.

As the Executive Secretary of the NFA, Kafui Danku-Pitcher aims to create a conducive environment for filmmakers by implementing policies that promote investment, creativity, and sustainability.

She has already outlined plans to standardize industry regulations to ensure quality productions that meet international standards, strengthen collaborations with local and international stakeholders to boost funding and distribution opportunities, empower filmmakers and creatives by providing training programs and mentorship opportunities, and promote Ghanaian culture through film by supporting projects that highlight the country’s rich heritage.
