Tell Ghanaians The Exact Prison Sedina Is Kept – Minority Demands From Gov’t

The Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has urged the John Mahama government to provide detailed clarification on the whereabouts and custody status of convicted former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Attionu-Tamakloe.

He indicated that official communication on the matter remains insufficient and called for transparency regarding her imprisonment arrangements.

The Minority Caucus Member of Parliament stressed that public accountability demands clear information on the enforcement of court sentences.

Honourable Boamah-Nyarko explained that government communication so far has not met the standard required in an accountable democracy, adding that, citizens deserve precise details on where the convicted individual was received and the institution currently responsible for her custody.

He further emphasized that ambiguity surrounding the situation fuels speculation and undermines public confidence in justice administration. He argued that general statements indicating prison custody do not fully clarify the situation.

Government communication on former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is a very tense one. We expect government to provide full details in terms of where she was received, and where she has been sent to, exactly who received her and the details involved as to whether she is in there to serve the full sentence as convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction.

“It is not just for Government Spokesperson to say that, she is in prison custody because being under the care of prison and still be in one home or the other. In view of that, we want a definite information from the Minister of Government Spokesperson on exact status of Sedinan” he indicated in an interview with journalists outside the floor of Parliament.

He further added, “If they provide us with this vital information then Ghanaians will have the opportunity to understand that, indeed she is in to serve the full sentence. If government had given us these details, we would not have been engaged in speculation. We (Minority) expect government to be candid to the people they are serving. Ghanaians are interested in this matter. We are dissatisfying with the information out so far and we want government to do better.”

On the same subject matter, Convenor of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi, has called on government to provide clarification on her exact whereabout.

“They must take every step to prove to the people that accountability is being served. It doesn’t mean that she will be in jail forever. If people are doubting and have reason to believe that there is selective justice in this matter, the government must purge itself of that perception because the governance processes must be seen to be delivered” he stated on the Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, June 20.
