Vice President Celebrates Outstanding Students With Presidential Awards

As part of the celebrations marking Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary, the nation hosted the prestigious Presidential Independence Day Awards ceremony to honour exceptional students from both private and public schools at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The event recognized 52 outstanding students, including two visually impaired and two hearing-impaired students. It was graced by the Vice President of Ghana, H.E. Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, along with key stakeholders in the education sector.

In her keynote address, Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang congratulated the awardees, acknowledging their hard work and determination.

“Your achievements today mark the beginning of the profound impact you will have on society. Ghana believes in you and admires your dedication,” she emphasized.

She urged the students to continue striving for excellence, remain disciplined, and pursue their dreams with passion and resilience.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the significance of the awards in fostering a culture of diligence and perseverance among Ghanaian youth.

She also expressed deep appreciation for Nestlé Ghana Limited’s long-standing support, which has sustained the initiative since 1993.

“Your commitment to the development of education in Ghana is commendable, and we are truly grateful,” she stated.

The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu thanked Nestle for the consistent support and acknowledged other stakeholders who made the award possible and as well congratulated students for their dedication and hard work.

The Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana, Mr. Georgios Badaro, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to supporting education. “Education is a fundamental pillar of development, and we believe in the power of recognizing and celebrating achievements,” he noted. He also outlined Nestlé’s ongoing initiatives in promoting sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and overall societal well-being in Ghana.

As a symbol of their achievement, each awardee received a laptop computer and a year’s supply of Nestlé products.

The presentation was conducted by Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, the Honorable Minister of Education, the Director of Nestlé Ghana, and the Director General of the Ghana Education Service.

The event attracted distinguished guests, including members of the Council of State and traditional leaders, who praised the efforts of the young awardees. Throughout the week leading up to the ceremony, schools across the country engaged in activities highlighting Ghana’s rich history, achievements, and aspirations for the future.

This year’s Independence Day Awards not only celebrated academic excellence but also reinforced the importance of resilience and determination among Ghanaian youth. The event served as an inspiration for future generations, emphasizing that hard work and dedication are key to national development.
