NDC Cooking FAKE NEWS For 2028 Polls – Osahen Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has charged members, officers and communicators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prepare for what he predicts will be an aggressive misinformation and disinformation campaign by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2028 general election.

The Effutu lawmaker, in a Facebook post, said the NPP’s communication machinery must remain disciplined, vigilant and focused on the issues that matter to Ghanaians instead of allowing what he described as “fake news” and politically manufactured distractions to dictate the party’s agenda.

Part of the post reads, “Every Ghanaian must understand this strategy. We must stay vigilant, question what we are told and refuse to be distracted from the issues that affect us. NPP members, officers and communicators especially carry an even greater responsibility. We must remain alert, disciplined and focused.

“Check the facts, expose the lies quickly and never allow false propaganda to dictate our agenda. Keep the focus on the Government’s broken promises and the everyday problems Ghanaians face.”

According to him, the expected strategy from the NDC government would be aimed at diverting public attention from what he described as the government’s failures and unfulfilled promises.

He therefore urged NPP communicators to be proactive in dealing with information they encounter, insisting that they must verify claims, establish the facts and respond swiftly to false information.

Misinformation

He said the NDC government would increasingly resort to what he described as “fake news” and manufactured distractions in an attempt to divert public attention from issues on which the government had allegedly failed to deliver.

He continued, “Going into the 2028 elections, one strategy the NDC Government is likely to use aggressively, in its desperation to hold on to power, is misinformation and disinformation. Expect FAKE NEWS and manufactured distractions aimed at taking attention away from the important national issues on which the Government has failed to deliver.

“This is not new, it is a political tool they have mastered. Go back and examine the accusations, claims and stories they promoted while in opposition. Several have since been contradicted by the FACTS, exposed as misleading or proven entirely false”.

He argued that misinformation and disinformation were not new tools in Ghanaian politics, claiming that the NDC had used similar tactics while in opposition.

Bawumia’s Vision

Beyond countering what he considers misinformation, Mr. Afenyo-Markin wants the NPP communication team to devote greater attention to selling the party’s alternative vision to the electorate.

He specifically directed communicators to promote the vision of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s Presidential Candidate, with what he described as clarity and conviction.

He said the party must not allow itself to be defined solely by its response to the governing party, but must consistently present its own ideas and policy alternatives to Ghanaians.

“Above all, stay on message by promoting Dr Bawumia’s vision for Ghana with clarity and conviction while working relentlessly towards victory in 2028. Expose the lies. Focus on the issues. Promote the vision. Win 2028” he concluded.
