Robbers Attack ADB Cash Van – Kill Police Officer

Two robbers armed with pump action guns yesterday gunned down a police officer at Sefwi Asempanye at Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region.

The deceased, General Sergeant Emmanuel Chikudoh was killed while escorting a Nissan Hard Body bullion van with registration number GT 9436-17.

The van was loaded with cash and heading for an ADB Bank branch at Sefwi Wiawso when it came under attack at Sefwi Asempanye.

The death of G/Sgt. Chikodoh adds to the long tally of service personnel killed by robbers months after the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery directed the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong Boanuh to immediately provide officers with bullet-proof vests and helmets to enable them “exercise their right to self-defence effectively.

In August five police officers were killed in the line of duty, a situation many security experts attributed to the lack of logistics for police personnel who ensure law and order in the country.

According to a police daily situation report (SITREP), on the last incident, the Acting Manager of Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) of Sefwi Wiawso reported the incidence on December 3, 2019.

The police said the team came under attack by two men armed with pump action guns at the outskirt of 290 Community near Asempaneye.

“That the team including G/Sgt. Chikodoh was on its way to Essam branch to escort cash to Sefwi-Wiawso branch. On receipt of this information, police immediately dispatched a patrol team to the area where they met the team with G/Sgt. Emmanuel Chikudoh who sustained gunshot wounds on the head,” the Police SITREP said.

The late G/Sgt. Chikodoh

was rushed to St. John of God Hospital, Asafo but died before arrival.

His body was deposited at the same hospital morgue pending autopsy.

The service rifle of the decease has been recovered by police and all the other occupants of the bullion van escaped unhurt.

Meanwhile, police have intensified patrols at the area and its environs to arrest the culprits.
