NPP Regional Elections: Okoe-Boye, COKA, Esibu, Abronye DC Cruise to Victory

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected a new generation of regional leaders across the country, tasking them with a singular urgent mission to rebuild a fractured grassroots machinery and reclaim lost parliamentary strongholds ahead of the 2028 elections.

The polls, held simultaneously across all regions on Saturday, August 15, 2026 delivered both crushing victories and stunning upsets across the country.

Greater Accra

Former Minister of Health Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye was been elected Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after a decisive victory in the party’s Greater Accra regional executive elections.

Dr, Okoe-Boye polled 490 votes to defeat his sole contender, Alfred Boye, who secured 172 votes, a commanding margin of 318 votes between the two names.

His election comes at a pivotal moment for the NPP in the Greater Accra Region. The party previously held 14 of the region’s 34 parliamentary seats but saw its number plummet to just five after the 2024 general elections, representing the loss of eight constituencies.

Dr Okoe-Boye’s immediate task will be leading the regional party structure through a rebuilding process, working with constituency executives to strengthen the NPP’s presence across Greater Accra ahead of the 2028 elections.

The Regional Chairman is responsible for coordinating constituency structures, mobilising supporters and overseeing implementation of party leadership decisions.

Ashanti Region

In the Ashanti Region, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, secured a crushing victory in the chairmanship race.

COKA polled 658 votes to defeat former Bantama Member of Parliament and former EPA Chief Executive Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, who managed 269 votes.

The wide margin gives COKA a strong mandate to lead the NPP’s structures in the party’s traditional stronghold. Before the election, COKA had confidently predicted he would secure no less than 90% of the votes, though his final tally fell short of that projection.

His victory marks a significant political comeback, having previously been defeated by former regional chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi).

Central Region

Dr Joseph Kobinah Esibu emerged as the new Central Regional Chairman after unseating incumbent Percy Dennis Quaicoe in a straight fight.

Esibu secured 278 votes against Dennis’s 161 votes in the election held at Manner Height Hotel in Maksim.

The defeat of the incumbent stands as one of the biggest headlines from Saturday’s polls.

Bono Region

Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, was re-elected as Bono Regional Chairman in a landslide victory.

He polled 201 votes to retain the chairmanship, beating his closest contender, former Jaman South MP Yaw Afful, who obtained 44 votes. Joseph Mensah polled 31 votes, while Afari Gyan and Kwabena Oppong failed to secure a single vote each.

Speaking after his re-election, Abronye pledged to lead efforts to reclaim parliamentary seats lost by the party in the Bono Region.

“What I did in 2016, I will do it again. The NDC should watch out for me. We will capture the Bono Region for the NPP as we did in 2016,” he declared.

However, he struck a conciliatory tone, promising to bring former competitors and all newly elected executives on board, emphasising that unity and collective commitment were essential to achieving the party’s 2028 objectives.
